ਅਰਦਾਸ

ਨਾ ਕਰੇਓ, ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਅਰਦਾਸ
ਨਾ ਕਰੇਓ, ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਅਰਦਾਸ
ਜੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ
ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਪਹਿਲੋਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਮਰਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ

 ਚੰਗਾ ਕੀਤਾ
ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ
ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ  ਅਰਦਾਸ
ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਪਹਿਲੋਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਮਰਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ
ਇਹੀ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ?
ਚੰਗਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ
ਜੇ ਪਹਿਲੋਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ

 ਮੈਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜਾ ਨੂੰ
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਦੂਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਮੈਨੂੰ
ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੇਰੀ
ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ
ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਕਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮਰਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ

 ਨਾ ਕਰੇਓ, ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਅਰਦਾਸ
ਜੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ

ਜਾਣਬੁੱਝ ਕੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਵੋਂਗੇ
ਇਹ ਪਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ
ਕਿ ਕੌਣ ਕੌਣ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ?
ਵਿੱਚ ਅਰਦਾਸ
ਕੀ ਸੱਚ-ਮੁੱਚ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ! ਅਰਦਾਸ

 ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ ਕੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ?
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ
ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ

 ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੋਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤੀ
“ਅਰਦਾਸ”
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ
ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਲਈ ਮੇਰੀ
ਮੇਰੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ
ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ

 ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਤੂੰ
ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜਾ‘ਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ
ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ
“ਆਪਣੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ”
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਰਨ ‘ਤੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਕੇ
ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਲਈ
ਕਰ ਦੇਣਗੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ

 ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ
ਰੋਜ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਦੇਖੀ ਦੀ ਹੈ-ਅਰਦਾਸ
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ
ਆਖਰ! ਇਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ

 ਕੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾ ਇਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ?
ਕੀ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਰਹੂਗੀ?

 ਅਛੂਤਾ ਤੇ ਹੀਣ

ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਬਖਸਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗੁਰੂਜਨ, ਅਛੂਤਾ ਤੇ ਉਚੇਰਾ ।
ਨਾ ਕਰੀਂ ਅਰਦਾਸ 
ਨਾ ਹੋਵੀਂ ਹੀਣ ਤੇ ਮਾਤਹਿਤ ।

ਨਾ ਕਰੀਂ ਅਰਦਾਸ
ਨਾ ਹੋਵੀਂ ਹੀਣ-ਭਾਵਨਾ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ
ਜੇ ਨਿਤਨੇਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ,
ਮਿਲੇ ਉਹਦੀ ਸੁਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ 
ਕਰੀਂ ਸਵਾਲ, ਲਈਂ ਜਵਾਬ
ਕਿਉਂ! ਉਹ ਜਾਣੀ ਜਾਣ ਹੈ ਆਪ!
ਤੇਰੇ ਸਵਾਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਵਾਬ ਹੀ ਹੈ
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ । 

ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਿੱਖ*, ਭਾਈ ਭਿਖਾਰੀ** ਰਾਹੀਂ
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਬੰਦਿਆ ਕੀ ਗੁਰੂ  ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ  ਮੰਨੇਗਾ?
ਉਹਦੀ ਰਜਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲੇਂਗਾ?

ਨਾ ਕਰੀਂ ਅਰਦਾਸ  
ਨਾ ਹੋਵੀਂ ਹੀਣ-ਭਾਵ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸੁਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਰ ਰਲੀ ਸੀ
ਆਇਆ ਸੀ ਹਰ ਸਵਾਲ ਦਾ ਜਵਾਬ
 ਉਹ ਸਵਾਲ ਤੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਹੀ ਹੈ
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ।
 ਅਰਦਾਸ ਵੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਵੀ ਹੈ
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਜੇ ਮੰਨੇਗਾ
“ਜਉ ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਖੇਲਣ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ
ਸਿਰੁ ਧਰਿ ਤਲੀ ਗਲੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਉ”
ਜੇ ਇਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਰਜਾ ‘ਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਚੱਲੇਂਗਾ
ਨਾ ਕਰੀਂ ਅਰਦਾਸ
ਨਾ ਹੋਵੀਂ ਹੀਣ ਤੇ ਮਾਤਹਿਤ
ਤਾਂਹੀਂਉ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਜਿਉਣਾ ਸਿੱਖੇਂਗਾ ।

Do Sikhs think, the living “By obeying, O Nanak! The pre-ordained order of the Lord of will.………All are subject to His fiat and none is exempt from His fiat. O Nanak ! if man were to understand Lord’s fiat, then no one would take pride.” We have to obey unquestionably Baba Nanak, “If thou yearnest to play the game of love (truth), step on to my path, with thy head placed on palm of thy hand” is less than some prayer?

The Word, the Bani is Guru, and Guru is the Bani.
Within the Bani, the Ambrosial Nectar is contained.

  Some Important Points rightly observed and selected about the Superior and the Inferior Man as under:

1.      "The superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions."

2.      “The superior man cultivates himself by comforting others."

3.        "The superior man holds righteousness first. If the superior man is brave without righteousness, he will make trouble.

4.        If the inferior man is brave without righteousness, he will commit robbery."

5.      "A superior man cannot be changed by poverty. An inferior man will do anything when he's poor."

6.        “The inferior man curries favour from others instead of treating them generously."

7.        “The Inferior man is difficult to serve...........”

In response to the research based article, ‘Praying Can Make You Worse’, I have to say in nutshell, “It has no contradiction with the principles of Sikhism, but it supports more to the principles enshrined in Sikhism. 

Though, it has always become fashion to say, “I can only pray for you or you pray for me, for so and so reasons and the relief.” But, I don’t think there is any place for hypocrisy enshrined in the principles to be followed in Sikhism.

To further be clear on the subject, we have to see praying in the context of the conclusion of Guru Nanak i.e. the mantra to be followed to lead life and enjoy as under: 

“By obeying, O Nanak ! The pre-ordained order of the Lord of will.………All are subject to His fiat and none is exempt from His fiat. O Nanak ! if man were to understand Lord’s fiat, then no one would take pride” 

In the context above, we have to obey unquestionably Baba Nanak, “If thou yearnest to play the game of love (truth), step on to my path, with thy head placed on palm of thy hand.”

You call it a prayer or not, I leave it for the choice of each of individual. But, to me, the rest all actions with regard to prayer for self or for someone else is a hypocrisy in Sikhism. I am also not exception to it.

Keeping in mind, the mantra, I already wrote the following poems, were like prayer for me:

What is prayer? Talking with God i.e. communication with God, when you find God is responding in any form. Gurus prayer was and is not like one way traffic as a worldly common man performs. Keeping in heart always to God, without adopting any specific mode is also prayer.  What are the modes of prayer?  Prayer seems to have taken the form of a dialogue--God and man drawing near and talking to each other.

Mode of prayer may be part of ‘Sikh Rehat Maryada’ (Code of Conduct) and that remained always debatable and subject to change under the changed circumstances. Let someone may like to follow, the way Gurus lived. In case of any dispute, the Guru Granth Sahib is final authority to be followed by Sikhs.  Sri Guru Granth Sahib is the source of Gurmat. Sikhs are to live life accordingly.

God may not allow anyone dividing the Sikhs and or humanity on the question of prayer i.e. ‘What is prayer’? What are the modes of prayer? In fact, Prayer of Gurus was their talking with God-communication with God i.e. now Sri Guru Granth Sahib. As a layman religiously, I myself feel, the complete ‘Sri Guru Granth Sahib’ in itself is a prayer.  I wrote poems by the grace of God without adopting any rituals of prayer in praise of God.

In Indian Courts after independence, from my lord, now judges being addressed as your honour or Sir. Keeping in mind, the mantra, I already wrote the following poems, were like prayer for me: poems, were like prayer for And prayer had not yet found a stated place in the ritual of the law.
