Observation and Views
Punjabi Sahitya Akademy, Punjabi Bhawan, Ludhiana
did contribute to the cause by its resolutions
By Balbir
Singh Sooch, Advocate, Ludhiana on 31 Mar 2008
Those heartily
and positively desire that Punjabi should not be one of the
languages to vanish and disappear in coming period ever as reported
by GENESCO, passed number of resolutions to make Punjabi teaching
compulsory in all schools up to matriculation level and to strictly
implement Punjabi in the government offices for all official work in
the Punjab and neighbouring states including Delhi.
Punjabi in courts
shall discipline people with knowledge of law. The move of the
Punjab government and the resolutions passed, promise of
notification to implement Punjabi compulsory and thereafter
necessary amendment in the Languages Act 1967 by the Punjab Vidhan
Sabha is very appreciable and also supported by the press.
Punjabi Sahitya
Akademy, Punjabi Bhawan, has hailed the resolutions passed in the
Punjab Vidhan Sabha recently and it has sufficiently contributed to
the cause earlier by passing the resolutions dated 22 April 2007 are
available in detail on website

The
issue of human security and survival and environmental concerns had
gained urgency is also of great importance
The highlight of
the day was Dr Mool Chand Sharma, vice-chairman, University Grants
Commission, Special Diamond Jubilee Lecture on “Human security and
human development - Some insights”. Addressing the delegates, Dr
Mool Chand Sharma said, “The scene of human security seems very
threatened and demands urgency of action, national as well as
global. The world can never be at peace unless people have security
in their daily lives.” He further observed that the issue of human
security and survival and environmental concerns had gained urgency.
Though it is
critically said, “such conferences are mere rituals and in no way
play a constructive role in the promotion and propagation of Punjabi
language. However, any message should not be overlooked in the
interest of the language.
The religious
gurus and the way corruption is seeping into our lives and main
issues are being ignored, rightly pointed out by Mota Singh, UK,
referring to the conference organised at Panjab University.
The point
observed during the conference that the issue of human security and
survival and environmental concerns had gained urgency is also of
great importance.
There should have
been more stress and appreciation on the issues like Punjabi in
courts shall discipline people with knowledge of law if implemented
and at the same time the international communicative language i.e.
English should never be ignored, the move of the Punjab government
and the resolutions passed to make Punjabi teaching compulsory in
all schools up to matriculation level and to strictly implement
Punjabi in the government offices for all official work in the
Punjab and to that effect the promise of notification to implement
Punjabi compulsory and thereafter necessary amendment in the
Languages Act 1967 by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha also the move is being
supported by the press.
